Thanks to the internship and the network it gave me, I was able to start working at ING after my Masters!
During my studies at VU University, I have always focused on studying, but even more on extracurricular activities (for instance committee work, management position, voluntary work, research projects and studying abroad). My management position brought me into contact with ING and I was given the opportunity to do an internship at their Campus Recruitment department, an opportunity that I grasped with both hands, and it gave me a fun and educational time. I always stayed in touch with my ING colleagues, so when I graduated in 2013, it was easy to approach them about possible opportunities within the HR departments of ING. This has led to an amazing job at an amazing organization. In short, try to make the most of your time at university, both at the university and outside of it.
After graduation, my contact with VU University stayed warm as well. As an alumnus of VU University, I am approached regularly to give presentations during introductions, as a speaker during events with students working for their Masters and to provide training courses to students about various economics courses. Every time, I love being able to talk to students about the opportunities I grasped during my studies, and to make them aware of all the things they can do.
